Even in the barrier shattering era of President Donald Trump, some White House traditions carry on. Like the pre-holiday Friday news dump.
As many in Washington prepared for their Independence Day holiday, the White House released the salaries for Trump staffers. The salaries are artificially capped, thanks to budget constraints, but they still contained a few surprises, as POLITICO’s Nolan D. McCaskill notes: An assistant to White House adviser Jared Kushner is paid far more than similarly titled individuals. President Trump’s “body man” makes more than his predecessor and top White House aide Gary Cohn makes just $30,000 a year — to cover his health insurance.

More interesting, perhaps is what the salaries don’t show — a fully staffed White House:
“The Trump White House’s inaugural salary disclosures also show that it has nearly 100 fewer staffers than President Barack Obama had in 2016. Obama’s White House had 473 aides, with 19 assistants to the president. Nine Obama aides earned top salaries of $176,461, and only one staffer, consultant Susan Davies, went unpaid.”
Elsewhere in President Trump’s orbit:
NOT SO CAREFUL: President Trump tweeted about Obamacare today — and it could once again upset delicate negotiations about passing a potential repeal and replace effort.
ROLL WITH IT?: President Trump’s voter fraud commission asked all 50 states to turn over data on every voter in the United States. (Washington Post)
REX IN EFFECT: A former State Department official argues that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is actually destroying Foggy Bottom.
MORNING MOURNING: President Trump’s feud with the Morning Joe crew pressed on for another day, with the two sides exchanging accusations and Joe Scarborough calling Trump a liar.
There you have it. You’re caught up on the Trump administration. Happy Friday.
